Cooking With Kids, a beautiful set of cookbooks for the classroom.  And these are not just cookbooks, they are fully fleshed out curriculum for grades K-6. The cooking lessons incorporate Art, Literacy, Math, Health curriculum for specific grades.  With great advice on safety, teamwork, shopping, and planning. And the recipes actually look great! Rio, Brazil & Olympic Games + Maps

Today, the 2016 Olympic Games officially start in Rio with the opening ceremony at the Maracana Stadium. The attention of the world will be focused on the amazing competition between athletes from 206 nations, plus a refugee team.  Athletes will be competing in 28 sports, plus 2 new sports - golf and rugby sevens. "Don't Make a Map" - Advice from the Washington Post

Could be more accurately titled, "Don't ALWAYS Make a Map". Here's some useful advice for all you data mappers out there. It's cautionary tale about things that can go wrong with an informative map.  Spatial visualizations that don't convey the right idea, data quality problems, and my favorite, the "fruity pebbles" problem.  That is, choropleth maps with too many categories and no meaningful geospatial patterns. The push is on for more support graphics, and maps certainly make outstanding infographics, but not if the mapmaker isn't thinking clearly about the message. Click here for WAOP Presentation.
